Welcome to new NTRI staff

The National Trauma Research Institute NTRI has new staff members:

• Cecily Schwab - a clinical psychologist with a significant business background.  Cec started in December, so many would have met her already, but she is replacing Kate Scott on the NTRI Forums and also helping out with some of the CETBIR and VNAC work.
• Jarrod Donovan - an Alfred nurse who has ICU experience and will be working with the P.A.R.T.Y. team from today, assisting Janet McLeod in managing the the operations of the various parts of the program.
• Crystal Seah and Natalie Lott - both will be working with Ornella Clavisi/Marije Bosch as casual data collectors working on the NET Program.

NTRI also has new Honorary Researchers working on the Enhanced Crash Investigation Study (ECIS): Emily Robertson and Karen Vlok.

Australian-first report shines spotlight on trauma care

The inaugural Australian Trauma Registry Report was released on Saturday 4 October 2014, at the Australian Trauma Society Conference. The collective effort of the nation’s 27 designated trauma centres has been revealed in the first report of the Australian Trauma Registry. The report quantifies the actual extent of the nation’s collective response to the 20,000 critically injured individuals who required treatment in an Australian trauma centre between 2010 and 2012. Australian Trauma Quality Improvement Program (AusTQIP) Co-Chair, Professor Russell Gruen, said the report offers us some vital national data for the first time. Improved trauma systems are a part of the solution to the global injury epidemic and have been very successful in Victoria. Can they work to reduce the 5 million trauma deaths elsewhere in the world? India is tackling an injury problem of epidemic proportions. The Australia-India Trauma Systems Collaboration (AITSC) is a collaboration of clinicians and researchers, academic partners, and governments. It aims to develop and test some innovative pre-hospital, hospital, and post-hospital interventions that could improve care of the injured in India and Australia.

Monash Strategic Grant Scheme yields new guidelines for Traumatic Brain Injury rehabilitation

A 2012 Monash Strategic Grant Scheme project has resulted in the publication of a series of eight guideline papers on Cognitive Rehabilitation following Traumatic Brain Injury. The project was led by Dr Peter Bragge from the National Trauma Research Institute (NTRI) and Professor Jennie Ponsford, Director of the Monash-Epworth Rehabilitation Research Centre, in collaboration with Dr Mark Bayley from the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Canada.
