CCS researchers have had many media mentions this last week, see more from the link below.

11/08/2014 Dr Rebecca Segrave, MAPrc, commented on studying depression, a condition that "one in seven Australians will experience in their lifetime".  She mentioned that she's trying to understand the bias in negative thinking that people get when they are depressed.

Professor Frank Rosenfeldt, Department of Surgery, heads a team of four researchers working on a new project to enable the production of a device to perfuse transplant donor hearts. They have received a $1.5M government grant to develop a device which will reduce the damage to hearts produced by ice storage, enable them to be resuscitated and keep donor hearts viable for longer over long distances in Australia and even New Zealand.

$1.5M grant for project to make more heart transplants possible

Professor Frank Rosenfeldt is one of four researchers working on a new project to enable the production of a device to perfuse transplant donor hearts. The project based at the Alfred and Monash University has received a $1.5M government grant to develop a device which will reduce the damage produced by ice storage and enable hearts to be resuscitated and used as human transplants.

Professor Frank Rosenfeldt has coordinated surgery workshops for interested MBBS students for a number of years.
