The new Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, is also newly Patron of the Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre. He and his wife, Lady Cosgrove, visited MAPrc in September for a tour of the centre and to meet the researchers. He takes on the role from the previous Governor-General, Dame Quentin Bryce. See:

Lecture Theatre, level 5, Alfred Centre for oral presentations and hallway for poster presentations and refreshments.

Students have the opportunity to explain their research to other students and by participating, will foster collaborations, networking and a greater awareness of the expertise and research being conducted at AMREP. Current PhD students will be running the program, including chairing the presentations: Ms Jodie Abramovitch (chair), Ms Kai Sin Lee, Ms Sara Mohktar, Mr Timothy Colgan and Mr Man Kit Lee, assisted by Ms Dussy  Kuttner.   Participants will be judged by a panel of senior academics and postdocs. Congratulations to joint PhD student in the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Immunology, Peter Tsirikis, who recently received the 2015 Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowship. Peter is jointly supervised by Prof Magdalena Plebanski (Department of Immunology) and A/Prof Cordelia Selomulya (Department of Chemical Engineering). Read more

Publication highlight: When in doubt, cut it out - the case for malignant melanoma treatment

A study that looks into the difficulty of diagnosing malignant melanomas has found that in the event of uncertain diagnosis or failed treatment of a lesion, an appropriate standard of care is full excisional biopsy if not previously performed, or referral of the case to an appropriate specialist or melanoma centre. The study is co-authored by the Director of the Victorian Melanoma Service, Alfred Health, Clinical Associate Professor John Kelly. Read more.

Welcome to the following new starters
  • Dr Dan Andrews joins the Department of Immunology and will be heading the NK Cell Biology Lab.  Dan is located on Level 6 of the Alfred Centre.
  • Dr Gennarino ('Jim') Rosella joins the Department of Gastroenterology.  Jim is a research scientist involved in clinical laboratory techniques.
  • Ms Nu Tran Joins the Department of Gastroenterology as the Social Media Assistant.
  • Vivian Monitto joins MAPrc's Women's Health Clinic Administration team
Ms Analin Baraniuk Joins MAPrcHer study and work interests include psychiatry, women's mental health, endocrinology, gynaecology and obstetrics. Analin is from Brazil and she enjoys physical exercise, cinema , ballroom dance and music.



Mr Jarrel Seah Joins the HealthMap project as their Technical Support Officer.  Jarrel is a CCS BMedSc(Hons) who, along with Jennifer Tang (SPHPM), recently won the Microsoft Imagine Cup.







Dr Beatriz Garcillan joins the Department of Immunology Beatriz is based in Prof Fabienne Mackay's lab.
